Blepharoplasty surgery with Mr Konal Saha

One of the most common concerns I hear from patients is about hooded upper eyelids giving them a tired, aged appearance that is totally at odds with how they feel. The great news is that a blepharoplasty procedure can help massively at relatively low cost and with relatively little recovery time.

Upper blepharoplasty is a procedure to reshape the upper eyelid. It’s great if you’re bothered by hooded upper eyelids for cosmetic or functional reasons. Patients often complain of a tired appearance or heavy looking and feeling upper eyelids or even restricted vision as if they’re wearing blinkers. All of these complaints can be addressed by upper blepharoplasty. I can often do an upper blepharoplasty under local anaesthetic ie. with an awake patient. Some clients like to have some sedation, which takes away the stinging sensation associated with the local anaesthetic injection given at the beginning of the procedure. The procedure will usually take 45mins to complete both sides and patients go home as soon as they are comfortable and recovered after the surgery (usually 1-4 hours after the procedure). Inevitably there is some bruising and swelling after the procedure and there will be a fine line of stitches hidden in the crease of the upper eyelid. The vast majority of bruising and swelling will resolve within a week. The stitches I use are dissolvable but can be removed in the first 1-2 weeks after the procedure.

I’m a Consultant Oculoplastic Surgeon. I work in the private sector and the NHS and carry out aesthetic and functional eyelid surgery. This is my sole focus; it’s quite a niche area! This means I’m doing eyelid surgery day in and day out; it’s not mixed with other types of surgery ie. I’m not doing eyelid surgery one day and breast surgery the next. You can find fully trained Oculoplastic Surgeons on the British Oculoplastic Surgeons’ Society website: https://www.bopss.co.uk/public-information/search-for-a-consultant/entry/1422ue/ I’ve been working in Oculoplastic surgery for well over a decade and it remains my passion. I love connecting with patients; understanding their needs to ultimately deliver a service that leaves them satisfied. Blepharoplasty surgery is one of my key procedures, but as an oculoplastic surgeon, I can tweak other cosmetic elements alongside this procedure e.g. ptosis surgery to correct a droop of the eyelid. More about ptosis surgery next time…..
